The match for 2023 will not be played in Kazan, as previously planned. The corresponding decision was taken by the UEFA Executive Committee on 25 January.
Instead of Kazan, the meeting will be held in Athens. It will take place on August 16th.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, UEFA suspended Russian clubs from European competition for an indefinite period. Because of this, the RFU considered the option of moving to the Asian Football Confederation, but in the end it was decided to start consultations with UEFA on the return of teams from Russia to European tournaments. The first meeting took place on 24 January; following its results, it was announced the continuation of negotiations.
St. Petersburg in 2022 was supposed to host the Champions League final, however, due to the war, this match was also postponed.
So far, no UEFA Super Cup matches have been held in Russia.
