the match between Lorient and Dijon postponed due to cases of Covid-19

Dijon will not play against Lorient on Sunday. The football league announced on Friday the postponement of the match after the discovery of a dozen cases of Covid-19 in the Breton workforce.

Lorient-Dijon will not take place on Sunday. The professional football league (LFP) preferred to postpone the match which was to pit the Bretons against the DFCO players on Sunday January 17 to a later date. Twelve cases of Covid-19 had been detected in recent days within the Lorient workforce.

“After the opinion of the national COVID FFF commission, noting the certain absence of more than 10 players on the list of 30 FC Lorient players due to positive RT-PCR tests for its match against Dijon FCO, the Competitions Commission of the LFP […] decides to postpone the FC Lorient / Dijon FCO match “, specifies the LFP in a press release.

Thursday, January 7, four players had tested positive for Covid-19 and placed in isolation, as part of the checks before the match the following Saturday in Bordeaux (2-1 defeat). Negative confirmation tests finally allowed two of these players to return to the squad in time for the match.

However, tests carried out every day since have revealed seven new cases, including two members of the management, Tuesday, then four additional cases Wednesday and finally this new case Thursday. For a total of 12 players, including 11 of the 30 members of the professional group.

First match postponement since November

The medical protocol put in place by the LFP at the beginning of September envisages the postponement of a meeting if one of the two teams cannot present at least 20 players tested negative on this initial list of 30.

This is the first match postponement because of the pandemic since the Marseille-Nice of the 11e day, decision dated November 17. On his site, FC Lorient takes note of this postponement and specifies that“a new schedule will be communicated later by the LFP”.
