The Alien series has spawned various offshoots since its inception in 1979. The latest film in the franchise is due out soon and alongside original director Ridley Scott is another director on board who knows horror better.
In recent years, a wide variety of ideas for sequels, prequels or spin-offs of the “Alien” series have emerged. Not all have been completed, but some are currently underway. For example, a series that will eventually launch on Disney+ and a feature film starring Ridley Scott, who directed the 1979 original and has had a big impact on the brand ever since as creator of the series.
It has now been announced that the shooting of the upcoming film ‘Alien’ will begin in two months. It will be filmed in Budapest, and ProductionList.com already claims to have found the working title of the upcoming film. The film is currently listed as “Alien: Romulus”. But the title can still change a lot.
Not much is known about the plot of the film, except that it is supposed to be a film set in the ‘Alien’ universe, but it has no connection to the rest of the films in the franchise. The lead actress is Cailee Spaeny, which should sound familiar to fans of Pacific Rim: Uprising and The Witches Club.
Ridley Scott is the executive producer of Alien: Romulus, and it is directed by horror expert Fede Alvarez. Alvarez directed, among other things, “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breath”.
We still don’t know when the film awaits us, but it will probably be at least a year from the start of filming. So don’t expect “Alien: Romulus” before 2024.
