The guessing panel of the RTL 4 hit The Masked Singer was one surprise after another on Friday evening. Carlo Boszhard’s great hero turned out to be in a suit, but he could not recognize him. Then the other revelation had yet to come: that celebrity had been in a risky situation thanks to his work, without a mask.
It just won’t work this season. Six celebrities have now taken off their colorful masks, but one panel member managed to guess correctly in only one of them. The other times they were dumbfounded, like then Dionne Stax came out of the Dragonfly’s suit and Albert Verlinde from the Pufferfish. On Friday evening, the Disco Ball and Garden Gnome came out short and had to reveal their identities.
The panel of Boszhard, Loretta Schrijver, Gerard Joling, Buddy Vedder and Monica Geuze was once again faced with a mystery. They had seen small British flags in the Discobol’s hint video. And the celebrity, a man, had said that he had worked internationally. It brought Buddy to a footballer who played in England, Glenn Helder. The flags were on cakes. Gerard bet his money on Thomas Berge, who will become a father for the third time and will probably eat cakes.

Monica was also in the football corner and went for Andy van der Meijde, while Carlo relied on wishful thinking. He thought he recognized the voice of TV celebrity Henny Huisman during the performance at the Discobol. The video featured small houses, as in the name Huisman. Carlo didn’t really believe it was Henny, but chose him because he thought it would be fun.
His great hero
A minute later he kicked himself in the head. “That’s my hero!” he shouted. The panel had missed all the hints pointing to a football goalkeeper. The Disco Ball spoke the words ‘with dot on 1’, which referred to his shirt number and the penalty spot.
He said he was not ‘a front runner’, which as a goalkeeper you are not either. The orange bitter he drank had to do with his play for the Dutch national team. Hans van Breukelen (67) was in the suit. Carlo once received goalkeeper training from him and is such a fan that he took action when Madame Tussauds wanted to remove his wax figure.
“You should have known,” Hans teased. “I think he is not only a fantastic linekeeper, but his personality is also great,” Carlo responded. “I have always enjoyed Hans immensely, and still do. You are still a great idol.”

Without mask at panel
At the next reveal, the panel was again clueless. The suit contained a good singer, that much was clear to the experts. Monica chose Waylon, Carlo chose Glen Faria. Loretta thought she had heard Peter Koelewijn, Gerard thought again of Thomas Berge and Buddy filled in for Faria.
What turned out? The suit contained someone who had stood in front of the panel without a mask the day before the recording. Someone who then had to do his utmost not to make a mistake about his participation.
The man stood there in his role as photographer. It was The Perfect Picture jury member William Rutten (53). “I’m not getting well,” Gerard Joling shouted. “You’re so cheating!” Buddy Vedder responded. “Yesterday William took a press photo,” Carlo explained. “I said to him: one thing is certain, you are not in a suit like that. What a good actor you are.”
