The Maserati MCXtrema will offer 733 horses and the possibility to set all the elements of the car according to yourself and the track where you will drive. It does not look at public roads, so the developers had a completely free hand. All 62 pieces that Maserati plans to produce already have their owners.
Auto Week in Monterey, California is increasingly the site of the premiers of top-of-the-line — and top-of-the-line — cars, simply because there tends to be an extreme concentration of people who can afford such cars. This year was no different, and at The Quail exhibition Maserati unveiled its latest innovation – the MCXtrema model.
Don’t look for proper headlights or even space for a license plate on it, it’s not a car that should drive on public roads. It is intended for racing circuits, which freed the hands of the developers especially in terms of aerodynamic elements. The result is, among other things, that the mcxtrema visually resembles the road model MC20 only remotely.
A large front spoiler and wings on the sides of the front bumper and behind the front wheels dominate the appearance of the front, a massive adjustable wing and fin together with a truly giant diffuser make up most of the rear. The rest is a puff of hot air, punctuated only by the lights, exhausts and Maserati lettering.

The giant intakes serve both to direct air to the rear wing and to provide access for cooling air. In addition, the bottom of the car is carefully covered so that any bit of air that flows around it does not cause mischief.
A huge intake port behind the cabin feeds an air-conditioned three-liter forked six-cylinder Nettuno, which received two new turbochargers and a dry sump lubrication system. The exhaust system is also new, but despite the fact that the car does not have to meet normal noise or emission limits, the developers kept the catalyst.
The result of the changes is performance 733 hp and a torque of 729 Nm, which flows to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential gearbox and a mechanical limited-slip differential. Everything is kept under control by the trapezoidal suspension on both axles, which has of course been tuned specifically for this model, and the carbon brakes.
Both shock absorbers and springs, as well as transverse stabilizers are adjustable, as well as the stabilization system, electric power steering, brake force distribution or engine control unit mapping. At least the driver can control the electronics while driving.
The interior of the car is a standard one-seater, although the second seat will be available so that the pilot can drive someone around the circuit. However, the orientation towards a one-man crew is more than clear, all the controls are in the immediate vicinity of the driver’s hands, if he is holding the new formula-inspired steering wheel with a display in the middle.

In addition, the interior also received a protective cage with FIA certification, and the racing fuel tank has the same finish. The car also boasts an air lifting system, thanks to which it is possible to change the wheels without the use of a conventional jack. The removal of all upholstery and decorations is a matter of course in an effort to reduce weight to a minimum.
The automaker aimed for a ton and a quarter dry weight, i.e. without any fillings. It didn’t work out, but we’re not far off – the final total weight should be around 1.3 tons. With the fillings and the driver, we are looking at something around 1.5, 1.6 tons, which is still a great number for more than seven hundred horses.
Finally, how much money is Maserati charging for its novelty? The automaker didn’t disclose the price, but at this point it’s not that important anymore – everyone 62 pieces, which he plans to produce, already has its owners. Each of them will be able to customize their car individually, of course.
