The Mary cinema in Cistierna will premiere ‘I Am Nevenka’ this Friday.

The story of the Ponferrada councillor who in 2000 was a pioneer in reporting the harassment she suffered at the hands of the mayor will be shown in four sessions.

The Mary cinema in Cistierna will premiere this Friday, September 27, the film ‘I am Nevenka’, which tells the true story of Nevenka Fernández, the councillor of the Ponferrada City Council who in 2000 was a pioneer in reporting the harassment she suffered from the mayor and was subjected to a public trial for it.

The film, which is nominated for the Golden Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival, will be screened in four sessions, the first of which will be this Friday at 8:30 p.m. Afterwards, it will be screened again on Saturday 28 September and Sunday 29 September at 8:00 p.m. and on Monday 30 September at 8:30 p.m.

In 2000, Nevenka Fernández, 24, was a councillor for Finance at Ponferrada City Hall. She then began to suffer relentless persecution, both emotionally and professionally, by the mayor, a man accustomed to doing his will in politics and in personal life.

Nevenka decided to report him for sexual harassment, but she had to pay a high price: her entourage did not support her, the society of Ponferrada turned its back on her and the media subjected her to a public trial. Her case started the #metoo movement in Spain long before the term was invented and has now inspired a film directed by Icíar Bollaín and starring Mireia Oriol and Urko Olazabal.
