Since hardly any spectators were able to enter the stadiums, the Bundesliga clubs recorded losses in the millions in the 2020/21 season due to the pandemic. According to SPONSORs, FC Bayern Munich alone lost around four million euros in ticketing and catering per home game. Revenues on the transfer market are also declining significantly, in 2020/21 they almost halved compared to the previous season. At the same time, personnel costs remained almost unchanged, as a look at the clubs’ balance sheets shows.
In contrast, despite Corona, the Bundesliga income from the marketing of its most valuable rights packages has remained relatively constant, as an exclusive SPONSORs analysis shows. In the current 2021/22 season, for example, the 18 clubs are only generating around six percent less than in the previous season from a total of 68 contracts in jersey and sleeve sponsorship as well as their equipment mandates and stadium naming rights.
