More than half of the Spanish population will be affected to a greater or lesser extent different movement restrictions that will be applied throughout this recently started 2023 in a large number of cities in our country with more than 50,000 inhabitants, according to the announcement made days ago by the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP). The reason? The entry into force of the so-called zones ZBE (Zones of Low Emissions)some very specific areas within the urban centers of the affected municipalities.
On several occasions at Autopista.es we have been explaining that It will be each city council that will specifically establish the restrictions on movement and the different rules to apply.. As of today, Tuesday, January 3, 2023, very few affected cities have published their municipal mobility ordinance regulating the ZBE area.
On the other hand, the state-level regulations that regulate ZBE areas in the first instance also contemplate that all those municipalities with more than 20,000 inhabitants may also impose an area with restrictions on movement due to poor air qualitythat is, if the values of the polluting indices are very high.
