As of today, the use of masks in health care settings, such as hospitals or senior care facilities, will no longer be mandatory in New York.
However, our city’s public health system will continue to require face coverings for staff and patients.
The state of New York announced the end of its rule that requires the use of masks in these spaces.
The change comes as infections and hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 are declining.
But the policy change allows health care facilities to still set their own mask-wearing rules.
Northwell Health System also announced that as a protective measure, all of its staff, patients and visitors are required to wear face coverings at its facilities.
The mandate was one of the Covid-19 regulations still in force in the State.
Until now, all medical personnel, patients or visitors had to wear a mask, whether they were vaccinated or not.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention eased its restrictions in September.
However, New York State continued to mandate the use of this implement at the state level.
