The Mandalorian & Groguu: New Star Wars Film to Have Modest Budget

Sea The Bespin Bulletin The new “The Mandalorian & Groguu” film from the “Star Wars” universe will have a much more modest budget compared to “The Last Jedi” and “The Rise of Skywalker”.

What is known

Filming on “The Mandalorian & Groguu,” directed by director Jon Favreau, is scheduled to begin on June 17, 2024 in Los Angeles. The film is expected to continue the story of The Mandalorian series, but it is not yet clear whether the film will replace or complement the fourth season. Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni didn’t give a definitive answer to these questions, but expressed great enthusiasm about the project, citing director Jon Favreau’s deep understanding of the Star Wars universe.

Despite all the enthusiasm, it is reported that the budget for the new project will not exceed $120 million, which is well below the usual $300 million for films in the series.

It is true that the cost of the first season of “The Mandalorian” is also no more than 120 million dollars (the cost of each series +/- 15 million dollars). Considering that The Mandalorian & Groguy will only have a two-hour runtime instead of the full 6-7 hour season, it’s hard to consider such a budget as “insufficient” to make a successful film, especially in this day and age when major film projects spend huge amounts of money and often become objects of criticism and box office failure.

When to wait

The Mandalorian & Groguy is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2026.
