The Mandalika MotoGP Test is as Difficult as Motocross

Defending champion Fabio Quartararo mention the atmosphere Mandalika MotoGP test 2022 first day, Friday (11/2), in Mandalika Circuit like riding a motocross.

Quartararo finished fifth fastest on the first day of the Mandalika MotoGP test. The French racer was 0.642 seconds behind Pol Espargaro as the fastest with 1 minute 32.466 seconds.

After carrying out the first day of testing, Quartararo explained the situation in that session which was disturbed by the Mandalika Circuit which was dirty due to dust and mud entering the track.

All racers including Quartararo were affected by the dirty Mandalika Circuit. Quartararo’s motorcycle and racing uniform were also dirty. The 22-year-old racer called the Mandalika MotoGP test like appearing in motocross.

“This morning was really difficult. The conditions were like motocross,” Quartararo said in a Yamaha upload on Instagram.

However, the former Petronas Yamaha racer admitted that he was happy with his performance on the first day of the Mandalika MotoGP test.

“In the afternoon I felt much better, our pace was very strong. I recorded my fastest lap with 16 laps on the medium rear tyre, so I’m very happy actually, and we still have two days to go,” said Quartararo.

After feeling the track for 86 laps, the Nice-born racer also compared the Mandalika Circuit with Losail in Qatar, Buriram in Thailand and Termas de Rio Hondo in Argentina.

“I think this circuit is like Qatar and Thailand, with a bit of a resemblance to Argentina in heavy braking,” said Quartararo.
