An Indian man believed to have the world’s largest family has died. He is said to have had 38 wives and 89 children.
Ziona Chana, who was the head of a religious sect that practiced polygamy, died in the state of Mizoram, according to state authorities. He turned 76 years old.
He is said to have had 38 wives, 89 children and 33 grandchildren. A typical dinner for the huge family was 30 chickens, 60 kilos of potatoes and 100 kilos of rice, according to the news agency DPA.
It is not possible to determine with certainty that the man was the head of the largest family in the world, but according to the state authorities, that was the case.
The small Christian sect to which Chana belonged has about 2,000 members.
Polygamy is not allowed in India, but exceptions may be made in some cases.
