The Man Who Waits: A Thrilling Relationship Unfolds on Stage

And in the play, the first scene will be where he (a man), driving a car, stops because a woman is hitchhiking. The man opens the door and asks where to be taken. She says – drive straight, and you just drive and drive. She has a bottle of wine in her hands, and at some point she asks – aren’t you that actor from that stupid TV series. Driving straight, she has finished her bottle of wine and this beautifully dressed woman falls asleep in the car. As straight as he can drive, he takes him to his home. And then the whirlwind of a relationship, a thriller of a relationship began.

I won’t be alone on stage – either Lelde Dreimane or Erika Eglij-Grävele will be there. They will create a show – there will be many screens, music, songs, and Ķesteris will get bored with stories about relationships.

Do I understand correctly that the show will reflect both real stories from your life and fictional ones?

Undeniably. The creators of the works are poetry, they are joking with themselves. It will be both. The guy who will be on stage, and I hope I can still call myself that, may or may not be Đirts ķesteris.

And the title – “The Man Who Waits”.

Yeah, damn, I don’t know what he’s waiting for, subconsciously waiting for something.

He still has a girlfriend, a seagull, who knocks on the window every morning, that’s the reality. A big herring gull flies to my window every year in the spring, she was banging on the window at four in the morning, she was outside. You throw a slipper, try to threaten in some way, she looks at you like that, and I’ve noticed that when at some point she flies away, I miss her. The play also contains such a metaphor, such poetics about this seagull, which flies out from one side, but at the same time you can’t live without her, an already established relationship. There is something beautiful about it all.
