NEW YORK – ShopRite employee accused of slapping Rudy Giuliani in the back at a Staten Island grocery store this summer, a slap the former Republican Mayor of New York City said caused him to fall “as if a rock me hit “. it seems likely he’ll get away with it, his lawyers said Thursday.
Legal aid attorneys representing Daniel Gill, 39, said they received a truce ahead of firing the controversial “pat” or “slap”, depending on who you ask, which took place at the supermarket located on Veterans Road in Charleston in late June when Giuliani stopped to campaign for his son in the neighborhood.
The group hopes the case will eventually be dismissed. Giuliani had said shortly after the slap that if Gill didn’t go to jail, New York would officially become “the Wild West”.
Gill’s lawyers say he had no previous contact with the legal system and did not commit any criminal acts.
“This result, which will ultimately result in the case being closed in its entirety, reflects that reality,” Susan Platis, a lawyer with The Legal Aid Society’s Staten Island Trial Office, said in a statement. “Mr. Gill is looking forward to putting this incident behind him, which has completely changed his life.”
It was not immediately clear when that dismissal would come, nor how Giuliani would react.
78-year-old Republican adviser to former President Donald Trump said he took “a really, really hard punch” from Gill at ShopRite that June afternoon.
“It was painful all night. It was hard to sleep,” Giuliani told reporters after the incident saying he was recovering from a shoulder injury. “I’m fit enough to be a 78-year-old. Not all 78-year-olds are in good shape.”
“He could have easily hit me … knocked me down and killed me,” added Giuliani, insisting that it was a political disagreement. “He beat me to the ground. If that doesn’t get you to jail in New York, we have the Wild West here. He started telling me that I’m killing women, to have abortions. No, no, I’m saving babies.”
Gill filed a lawsuit against New York City, claiming the false arrest and imprisonment, unconsciousness and other inflictions of emotional distress for the incident. You are looking for $ 2 million.
