Near Banská Bystrica, Slovakia, the gamekeeper was surveying the area when a bear attacked it near the driveway. The beast probably defended its young, which was there with it. The man ended up bruised and scratched, but fortunately he met the bear mother without serious injuries.
The 33-year-old gamekeeper met the bears with last year’s bear cubs in the cadastre of the village of Očová, less than 30 kilometers from Banská Bystrica. On Monday morning, he conducted a field survey of the site to be afforested.
The beast attacked him from behind near the driveway. “He tried to avoid direct contact with the bear, but she knocked him to the ground, shouted, but fortunately did not continue the attack,” Lesy of the Slovak Republic described the attack on its employee.
The man escaped without serious injuries. He ended up bruised, scratched and with a torn thigh muscle. This is the second bear attack this year on the employees of Lesy SR. The first took place in March and the man is still incapacitated for work.

There is no universal rule for meeting a bear, but Lesy SR recommends that people leave the place by slow backing down and avoid eye contact. If you are still knocked to the ground, protect your head and neck area with your hands.
