The man who was shot dead yesterday during a police operation in the “Winterhude” district of the German city of Hamburg is a 36-year-old Lebanese, the police in the northern port city announced today, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The man had damaged several parked and moving cars yesterday afternoon, threatened at least one person and chanted “Allah Akbar” by brandishing a knife, according to police.
During a search of the attacker’s room at a refugee center next door, police found no evidence of the perpetrator’s motive.
According to a police spokesman, there is no evidence of a religious motive.
As the man threatened with a knife and law enforcement officers and was not subdued with a hot spray using an electroshock pistol, a police officer fired several shots at him. The attacker died on the spot.
The media reported that drugs for the treatment of HIV had been found in the Lebanese’s room, forcing police and doctors to receive preventive medical care.
Along with the Homicide Unit, the regional counterintelligence service and the regional criminal police bureau of the state of Hamburg were involved in the investigation.
