The reason is, the Young Tiger squad was eliminated in the preliminary round of Group B. Ironically, they lost to one of the weakest teams in Southeast Asia, the Laos U-23 National Team.

Indeed, Malaysia is more favored to advance to the semifinals, considering that they only meet Laos. Unfortunately, Malaysia gave up 1-2 in the first match, and 0-2 in the second match against Laos.
