The Making of the Multi-Episode Film ‘Pansija palili’ at the Padure Manor

The fortieth shooting day of the multi-episode feature film “Pansija palili” is underway in the Padure manor.

In order for the film version of Anšlava Egliš’s novel to be more stylistically diverse, it is filmed by several directors. Dāv Sīmanis is entrusted with the final series of the film.

“The novel itself is not so easy to adapt to the screen, in fact, parallel stories, different types of characters, which do not appear in the novel in any way, have to be developed a lot,” admits Sīmanis.

The action of the novel takes place in the 20s-30s of the last century in the property of the Anšlava Egliš family in the Inciem manor, which will appear in the documentary series of the film. And both the film and the book tell about the efforts of the Egliš family to restore the state-granted property. Anšlava Eglītis himself is embodied on the screen in his youth by Rihards Zelezņevs.

“This time I’m showing is not the well-known writer, it’s a person who has just returned from his recovery tour, who mostly sees himself as an aspiring painter. So I sketch a lot, in a lot of scenes I have a pad with a pencil tied to it “, says the actor.

Many of our prominent artists, painters and poets participate here,” adds actor Gundars Āboliņš.

Kaspars Znotiņš can be found in the make-up room together with Anšlav Eglīš’s memoir, who says: “There is one sentence that I don’t like in the script, the way it is written, I want to offer the director some other option, and I need to find an equivalent text from Anšlav’s texts.”

Filming in the Padure manor, as well as the filming of the documentary series, will end this month. The film will hit theaters early next year.
