“The Making of Queen Máxima’s White Coronation Dress: Embroidery, Last Minute Alterations, and a Break from Tradition”

For a long time there was uncertainty about the dress code for the coronation of King Charles. Women now had to appear on the scene in white and long or not? Máxima’s white dress had to be shortened unexpectedly due to all the commotion.

On Jan Taminiau’s Instagram page, you can currently see a video about the making of. It started with working out a pattern and ironing pieces of white cord.

The cords in floral pattern were then placed on tulle.

After completing the embroidery, the artful neckline was attached to the rest of the dress. In the screenshot below, the sleeve is attached to the bodice.

Was the dress finished with that? No. Shortly before the coronation, the Queen was told that she was expected in a daygown. So the scissors had to be put in the fabric at the last minute. A shame, because that also brought an end to an age-old tradition. For a coronation, royal ladies used to wear a long, white dress, as a (reference to the former) court dress.
