Police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo named the perpetrator suicide bomb in front of the Makassar Cathedral, Sunday (28/3) related to Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD).
“The perpetrator was part of the JAD group that had carried out the bombing in Jolo Philippines,” said Sigit while visiting the scene of the incident with TNI Commander Hadi Tjahjanto.
The National Police Chief said the suicide bombers who were killed were two people consisting of one man and one woman.
“The perpetrators who died were 2 male and female,” he said.
Listyo Sigit asked the public to be calm and not panic after the suicide bombing. The community, according to him, was asked to continue carrying out activities as usual.
“We TNI-Polri will provide security and comfort to the community,” he said.
The National Police Chief on that occasion also expressed his gratitude for the courage of a Church security guard who kept the perpetrators from entering the church.
“We are concerned that now being treated at the National Police hospital for his injuries and hopefully he will get better soon,” he said.
On that occasion, the National Police Chief and the Commander of the Commander took the time to visit the victims of the bomb explosion at the Makassar Police Hospital. The National Police Chief said that there were two people who had finished undergoing surgery.
“The victim’s condition is aware and can be spoken to,” he concluded.
Previously, the name JAD was indeed suspected because in recent weeks the police had been actively arresting members of the group in Makassar and other cities. During the arrests in Makassar a number of JAD members were shot by the police for resisting.
Meanwhile, Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Boy Rafli Amar said there were similarities in mindset between the suicide bombers at the Makassar Cathedral Church and the three bombs in Surabaya in 2018.
