When Simon Müller and Frank Wechsel discussed the likelihood of the Ironman Hawaii 2020 being held during the Corona crisis on Tuesday, our podcasters had a spontaneous idea: Why not even the listeners and users of the site tri-mag.de ask what you think about the race? The survey tool was created quickly and on the two days of the survey, 2,159 people not only cast their votes, but sometimes also gave very detailed comments.
Clear majority for rejection or postponement
The opinion is clear: 53.0 percent of those who voted were in favor of canceling the Ironman Hawaii 2020 without an alternative date. 19.5 percent would like a postponement to spring 2021 – a year in which two Ironman world champions would then be crowned. 15.4 percent are hoping for a purely professional race in Kailua-Kona – a scenario Ironman CEO Andrew Messick in conversation with tri-mag.de had already given a clear rejection two weeks ago because it was neither economically nor in the local community justifiable. 9.5 percent of the participants in the vote believe that the previous plan for October 10, 2020 should be adhered to without restrictions, 2.6 percent were in favor of the same date, but as “Ironman Hawaii” without the status of one World Championship.
Ironman has announced a decision on the race to the German Press Agency (DPA) by mid-May.
