The unemployment rate for people between 15 and 28 years old in Valledupar is 19%, according to the report from the National Administrative Department of Statistics (DANE) for the May-July quarter.
This percentage is 6.4% above the general average in the capital of Caesarea, since the unemployment recorded by the municipality for that same period was 12.6 percent.
COMPARISON WITH OTHER CARIBBEAN CITIES
At the national level, Valledupar is ranked 12th among cities and their metropolitan areas, exceeding the total average by 2.4%.
However, capitals of the Colombian Caribbean such as Montería (24.1%), Sincelejo (23.6%), Barranquilla (20.2%), Cartagena (19.9%) and Riohacha (19.3%) surpass the municipality Caesarense
At a political event organized by the Valledupar Youth Council, many young people demanded the implementation of policies to confront this socioeconomic problem.
YOUNG PEOPLE IN RURALITY
Within these actions, they asked the municipal government to take into account youth life in the countryside, where there are fewer job opportunities due to multiple conditions.
Thus, this same population asks to close the gaps between the townships and the urban area of Valledupar “in every possible way”, they stand out.
