The majority of Israelis support remaining in Gaza and consider Gantz the best prime minister
The results of the latest opinion poll showed that most Israelis are influenced by the war in Gaza to decide their political opinions. In addition to the overwhelming hostility to the Hamas movement and support for the strikes on the Gaza Strip, they demand the overthrow of the extreme right-wing rule, and they reject the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, and prefer Benny Gantz, the son of the establishment, over him. The military considers him the responsible leader who should be handed the keys to government after the war.
The authors of the weekly poll, which was conducted by the Lazar Research Institute, headed by Dr. Menachem Lazar, in cooperation with the “Panel4All” company, for the “Maariv” newspaper, is convinced that the war will end with Israel’s victory over “Hamas.” They are not good at coming up with a single position regarding the fate of the Gaza Strip. 41 percent said they support exiting the Gaza Strip, but on the condition of transferring it to international control (33 percent) or transferring it to the control of the Palestinian Authority (8 percent), but 44 percent want Israel to remain in control of the Gaza Strip, whether with security control only (22 percent) or that the matter also includes the return of Jewish settlement there (22 percent).

Against the backdrop of growing American pressure to raise the issue of the kidnapped persons to the top of the list of priorities among the public, and the pursuit of a prisoner exchange deal, 59 percent of Israelis conditionally support a humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, with the basic condition for them being the return of all the kidnapped persons (39 per cent). 100) or at least a portion of them (16%). An analysis of the poll data shows that among Arab participants who are citizens of Israel (i.e. the Palestinians of 1948), the prevailing opinion (41 percent) was that a ceasefire must be conditional on steps related to the kidnapped. 21 percent of them said they supported this without any connection to the ceasefire, and 32 percent said they had no opinion on the matter. 6 percent expressed their opinion that they oppose a humanitarian ceasefire in every situation. 15 percent of them said that they support Israel remaining in the Gaza Strip. While 31 percent of them said that they support the Israeli exit from the Gaza Strip and the transfer of control to international bodies (31 percent, like the Jewish participants).

Citizens were asked about their opinion on who is better to head the government: Benjamin Netanyahu, who leads the government more than any president before him, or Benny Gantz, head of the “Official Camp” party, who made concessions to Netanyahu and joined his government to participate with him in managing the war. The percentage of those supporting Gantz rose to 52 percent, while Netanyahu received only 26 percent.
When citizens were asked how they would have voted for the current parties if the elections had been early and held today, the result was consistent, as it has always been since the formation of Netanyahu’s last government. The ruling right-wing camp is losing power, falling from 64 seats today to 43 seats (an increase of one seat from last week’s poll), compared to 77 seats for the opposition, which includes 10 seats for the Arab parties, and 5 for the coalition of the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality and the Arab Movement for Change, led by MPs Ayman Odeh and Ahmed. Tibi, and 5 seats for the United Arab List of the Islamic Movement led by MP Mansour Abbas, which supports joining the government coalition.

The ruling right-wing camp – “Likud” led by Netanyahu falls from the 32 seats it has today to 18 seats, the “Shas” party of religious Eastern Jews maintains its strength by 9 seats, and “United Torah Judaism” of religious Ashkenazi Jews rises from 7 to 9 seats. As for religious Zionism, led by extremist ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben Gvir, it falls from 14 to 9 seats (Ben Gvir 5 and Smotrich 4 seats).
Opposition camp – Gantz’s party jumps from 12 seats it has today to 40 seats, more than three times its strength, and the “There is a Future” party headed by Yair Lapid, head of the current opposition, falls from 24 seats it has today to 14 seats, and the “Israel Our Home” party Headed by Avigdor Lieberman, it jumps from 6 to 9 seats, and the left-wing “Meretz” party, which did not exceed the electoral threshold in the last elections, gets 4 seats, while the Labor Party, which is considered the founder of the Zionist movement, and the founder and leader of Israel over decades, disappears from the party map. He does not have the support of more than 1.1 percent of the vote.
