The large Walloon cities want to avoid a second wave.
For several days, the city of Antwerp has been in the spotlight. With 794 positive cases over the last seven days – an incidence rate of 151 infections per 100,000 inhabitants – the port city is indeed far ahead in the ranking of the municipalities most affected by the coronavirus. This week, the mayor Bart de Wever (N-VA), annoyed by this fixation on his city, declared on the waves of the VRT: “I worry a lot about other big cities and what they really know about their situation.” Although the remark of the nationalist mayor is primarily addressed to Brussels, the question can be broadened: what do we currently know about these other large cities, and more particularly in Wallonia?
