The three office floors in Femte Hötorgshuset that Space rented are being emptied. The large gaming area in the basement is also closed. A setback for the property owner AMF Fastigheter, who managed to fill the areas that were previously a little forgotten. In total, it is about 7,500 square meters being emptied.
Space opened at the end of 2021. Space/Pophouse Entertainment is owned by Abba icon Björn Ulvaeus and EQT founder Conni Jonsson.
For a few weeks, three storey offices, 600 square meters each and a total of 1,800 square meters, have been available for rent – the areas are listed in the magazine Fastighetsvärlden no. 2/2024. When Fastighetsvärlden visited the premises a few weeks ago, however, there was some activity going on in the premises where it is coworking with a focus on the music industry.
Now it is also clear that significantly larger areas will be emptied. Already last Sunday, the gaming business, which existed on two floors in the basement, closed. The conference and event part is kept open until the turn of the year, Space states on its website.
AMF Fastigheter’s CEO Thomas Erséus comments on the announcement:
– We have also been informed that Space will close down its operations and gradually leave 5th Hötorgshuset. We are of course extremely saddened to hear that the business is closing.
– The basic idea with Space was to give Stockholm a digital cultural center for creative creation – something that has been lacking in Stockholm until now. We continue to believe strongly in this place and the vision of creating life and attractiveness in the heart of the city remains. In this work, we will have a close dialogue with the city and other stakeholders in the area.
In total, Space has rented seven floors in Femte Hötorgskrapan.
Last spring, Space took in more than SEK 100 million in a rescue operation, they say Break it. But it has not been enough. Now you choose to throw in the towel instead. The annual report for 2022 shows that Space had a turnover of just over SEK 90 million. The operating loss was SEK 119 million.
