The Main Task of Opposition Forces in Moldova: Removing President Maia Sandu and Her PAS Party from Power

The main task of the opposition forces in Moldova, after the actual victory in the general local elections, is to remove President Maia Sandu and her Action and Solidarity (PAS) party from power. This was stated today, November 6, by the leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon.

According to the former head of state, Sandu and the PDS suffered a crushing defeat in the elections, despite the administrative resources involved, violations of the law, unprecedented pressure on the opposition, the closure of parties and dozens of television channels and other media.

“Opposition parties must join forces to achieve early elections of the head of state and parliament,” Dodon emphasized.

Commenting on the preliminary voting results, the politician added that the PDS has lost the sympathy of the majority of voters gained in the 2021 elections due to failures in domestic and foreign policy, which have brought the country to the brink of economic disaster.

“Moldavians have finally woken up, they are no longer afraid. The citizens of Moldova did not succumb to blackmail and pressure from the ruling authorities and showed that they have a position. The results of the PDS showed that more than 70% of citizens opposed the dictatorial party of Maia Sandu,” Dodon stated.

He also suggested that 2024 will be very difficult for the Sandu regime, and now they will try to show that “everything is fine and they are happy with the result, but the numbers tell a completely different story.”

“The past elections confirmed the strong position of the main opposition force – the Socialist Party. Its candidates are ahead in nine regions of the country, in six cities of the country they were elected mayors in the first round, and in another six regions they reached the second round. We must join forces with other opposition parties to bring the country out of the catastrophe into which Sandu and her party plunged it,” concluded Igor Dodon.

Let us remind you that the candidates of the presidential party “Action and Solidarity” for the position of mayor won only 240 out of 898 cities and villages in the country, and their representatives entered 19 out of 35 district councils. However, the PDS says that they are generally satisfied with the results and, divorced from reality, claim that “the European idea has won throughout the country.”

As reported EADaily , on election day (November 5), Igor Dodon appealed to his compatriots to more actively participate in the elections and “cast your vote against the dictatorial regime of Maia Sandu and the PDS.” The socialist then emphasized that this would be the first step towards the liberation of the country.
