Montluçon (Allier) placed the same trio of candidates in the lead as at the national level, this Sunday, April 10, giving first place to Emmanuel Macron ahead of Marine Le Pen and Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Emmanuel Macron confirms his position
Like five years ago, Emmanuel Macron comes first with 25.84% of the vote. The outgoing president even strengthens his score compared to his 2017 result where he won first place after the first round with 24.4% of the vote in the city on the banks of the Cher.
On the other hand, the candidate sees his total of votes crumble, from 4,027 to 3,835 votes.

The breakthrough of Marine Le Pen
It is quite the opposite for the candidate of the RN who had never before achieved such a result in Montluçon. Not content with winning almost six points to go from 18.2% of the vote to 24.07%, Marine Le Pen also saw her number of votes swell. In 2017, 3,006 Montluçonnais had voted for her in the first round of the presidential election. This Sunday, they were 3,572 to slip his ballot into the ballot box.
The RN did not suffer more from competition from the candidacy of Eric Zemmour, whose score stood at 6.55% in the city on the banks of the Cher.
Emmanuel Macron in the lead in the first round ahead of Marine Le Pen, Jean-Luc Mélenchon third
Jean-Luc Mélenchon third but down
In 2017, Jean-Luc Mélenchon finished second in the city on the banks of the Cher (23.6% and 3,901 votes)… less than one point behind Emmanuel Macron. And ahead of François Fillon, then LR candidate (18.8%).
The Popular Union candidate did not repeat his performance. In addition to having to settle for third place, he lost some 548 votes in five years. In 2017, he had managed to seduce 3,901 Montluçonnais. This time, they were only 3,353 to cast their vote on him.
The PS and LR far behind
Both parties receive the same slap locally as nationally. The Socialist Party had managed to reach 6.6% with Benoît Hamon, in 2017. It must be satisfied, this time, with a starving 2.01% with Anne Hidalgo.
The fall is even more spectacular for Les Républicains, the party of the mayor of Montluçon Frédéric Laporte, who had therefore reached 18.8% in 2017. And who finds himself, this Sunday, at 5.6% of the vote behind Valérie Pécresse.
Surprise in Commentry (Allier), Marine Le Pen tops the first round of the presidential election
Better participation… but fewer registrants
Last lesson, the participation was slightly better than in 2017, with an abstention of only 28.91%, against 31.7% five years ago. A figure, however, to be put into perspective since the number of registered voters decreased between the two elections. In 2017, 24,972 Montluçonnais were registered, against only 21,448 in April 2022.
