Karl Simon’s film “Alcarras” wins the main prize at the Berlin International Film Festival

Berlin, February 16, LETA – AFP. 72. The semi-autobiographical film “Alcarras” by Spanish director Carl Simon won the main prize “Golden Bear” at the Berlin International Film Festival on Wednesday.

The film tells the story of peach growers in Spain and the difficulties they face.

Simona dedicated the prize to her family, noting that without them and her closeness to the world, she would not have been able to tell the story.

18 films from 15 countries competed for the Golden Bear.

The grand jury prize went to South Korean director Hona Sansu’s The Novelist’s Film, and the jury’s prize went to director Natalia Lopez Gallardo’s drama Robe of Gems.

The Best Director’s “Silver Bear” went to French director Clare Denis for “Both Sides of the Blade.”

Lail Styler was awarded Best Screenplay for “Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush.”

Indonesian actress Laura Basuki received Meltem Kaptan’s Best Actress Award for Best Actress for her role in Rabiye Kurnaz vs. George W. Bush, and Best Actress for Best Supporting Actress in Laura Basuki. .

This year, the Berlin Film Festival is taking place in person. However, only people who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or have recently contracted the disease are allowed to stay at the festival venues.

Cinemas are allowed to accommodate 50% of the maximum number of visitors, but all balls and receptions, which are usually an important part of the festival, have been canceled.
