You don’t know how eager we were to be able to say this: the NBA is back.
The NBA kicks off at dawn on Wednesday with two great games (Nets-Warriors and Lakers-Clippers) after the shortest preseason in NBA history.
The new course will be marked by the pandemic and the difficult conditions in which it will be played and without an audience.
These are the dates you have to mark on your calendar
The organization of the NBA divided the season into two parts. A first part from December 22 to March 4 and a second later part in which the matches of the rest of the regular phase will be announced. The schedule for the second half will not be released until almost the end of that first leg of the competition.
The start date is December 22, and we will be able to know the winner of the NBA Finals, at the latest, on July 22. This date cannot be exceeded because the Olympic Games start on July 23, which was postponed last year due to the global pandemic.
The All Star break will be from March 5 to 10.
The second half of the season from March 11 to May 16.
From May 18 to 21, a play in expanded with respect to the bubble experiment.
And on May 22, the most anticipated will start with the 2021 playoffs.
The competition format also undergoes modifications
All franchises will go from the usual 82 games to 72 per franchise. It was expected that the NBA would limit the duels between the teams of the different conferences to reduce travel and, therefore, infections by coronavirus. But this reduction has not occurred and each team will play 30 matches against teams from another conference, that is, 2 matches per team.
As for the matches between teams from the same conference, each franchise will play 3 times against teams from that conference.
The new play in it brings a substantial modification regarding what happened in the Florida bubble. It goes from 2 teams to 4: those classified as seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth of each Conference. The seventh and eighth will directly play a playoff spot. Whoever wins that duel will be in the playoffs; and the one who loses, the last place will be disputed against the winner of the clash that will have been played between the ninth and the tenth.
Who are the favorites to win the 2020/2021 NBA ring?
Again the favorites to take the ring back are the residents of Los Angeles: Lakers y Clippers. The Eastern Conference teams that are also going to be in the ointment are the Milwaukee Bucks and the Brooklyn Nets.
Lakers
The Los Angeles team starts as the top candidate for the title after managing to retain Anthony Davis and LeBron James in the franchise. But the thing is not there, and the purple and gold team has been able to strengthen the weaknesses of last season and have incorporated players like Montrezl Harrell, best 6th man of last season, to their squad. In addition, they have added to their ranks contrasting men within the NBA scene such as Dennis Schroder, Wesley Matthews and the Spanish Marc Gasol.
Clippers
The Lakers’ neighbors want to fight for the NBA again after falling into Orlando’s bubble in the semifinals against the Nuggets after blowing a favorable 3-1. For this they will have one more season with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The Los Angeles franchise has been reinforced by signing players such as: Luke Kennard, Nicolas Batum Patrick Beverley Lou Williams and Marcus Morris and Serge Ibaka. It’s not bad at all!
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks will try to hit the table and establish themselves as the best team in the NBA, since they have in their ranks the MVP of the last two regular seasons: Giannis Antetokoumpo. The main squires of the Greek will be: Brook Lopez or Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday.
Brooklyn Nets
If the Kevin Durant – Kyrie Irving pair works as expected, the New Yorkers are serious contenders for the title, but we will have to remain vigilant as Durant returns after his serious injuries that have kept him from the tracks for almost two seasons.
