Reporting from Express, Saturday (18/9/2021) researchers claim that the main cause of obesity is the most important is consumption processed food , not overeating.
A new study claims that overeating is not the root causes of obesity . However, processed foods are a stronger cause of obesity.
The researchers argue that the obesity epidemic is driven by modern dietary patterns characterized by excessive consumption of foods with a high glycemic load. Processed foods in particular, are considered to be the most prominent influencing factor.
Lead author Doctor David Ludwig, an endocrinologist at Boston Children’s Hospital and a professor at Harvard Medical School, said the energy balance model does not explain the biological causes of weight gain.

“During accelerated growth, for example, adolescents can increase food intake by 1,000 calories per day. Modern diet patterns are characterized by excessive consumption of foods with a high glycemic load, in particular, processed carbohydrates that are quickly digested,” said Ludwig.
“These foods cause hormonal responses that fundamentally alter our metabolism, promoting fat storage, weight gain and obesity.”
Researchers explain that processed foods can trigger an increase in insulin secretion, which in turn suppresses glucagon secretion.
Once glucagon levels are low, fat cells begin to store more calories, depriving muscle and other active tissue of the calories they need for fuel.
This can increase hunger, causing the metabolism to stall in an effort to conserve energy. Researchers have shown that, to some extent, all the food you eat is processed.
