There are even seven candidates for the Thomas Bach throne who leave the presidency of the IOC. The elections will be held in March near Athens but Thursday 30 January in Lausanne, behind closed doors, there is an important step because the “Magnificent Seven” will present their programs to the members (for Italy there will be Giovanni Malagò, Ivo Ferriani and Federica Pellegrini). Based on the draw, the candidates will speak in this order, behind closed doors:
Prince Feisal at Hussein (Jordan);
David Lappartient (Francia);
Joahn Eliasch (Grann Bretag);
Juan Antonio Samaranch (Spain);
Kirsty Coventry (Zimbabwe);
Sebastian Coe (Gran Bretagna);
Morinari Watanabe (Japan).
It is not yet known if someone will retire from here to March. The two large (ex) athletes are Coe and Coventry but everyone has an excellent curriculum. In their programs they aim above all at a new, more open IOC. But politics (sporting) will also count: Kirsty Coventry could really be the first woman president of the IOC if, as it seems from some items, Bach will really decide to support her (see Spy Calcio on January 25).
Also on Thursday 30, in the afternoon, the 143 session of the CIO will be held in Lausanne dedicated to a single topic: Italy, after the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, will also have the Youth Winter Olympic Games of 2028. Exactly at “Valtellina -Dolomites “which is the only candidate and who has already received full approval of the IOC executive committee. The Italian delegation in Lausanna is composed of the president of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, the minister Andrea Abadi and the presidents of the three regions concerned (Fontana, Zaia and Fugatti). The candidacy of Valtellina-Dolomiti 2028 liked the IOC for two reasons: reduced costs and Legacy. In fact, many plants built for the Milan-Cortina 2026 games will be used, among these also the famous Bob track. In short, no more waste. What the IOC asks. For Malagò another satisfaction in a moment of bitterness: he risks having to leave the charge to Coni on June 26 after bringing two winter Olympics and sporting results never previously achieved in Italy.
The cricket goes to the games and in Italy the federation breaks …
The cricket enters with all the honors of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics (but will compete in New York for a matter of time zone) thanks to the excellent relations between President Bach and Indian Premier Modi, and also thanks to the (many) money that will enter In the Cio coffers. This historical moment lived badly in Italy with a strong rift within the Cricket Federation (FCRI). We vote on February 23 in Rome. Many candidates for a federation that is growing and that obtained excellent results, also of visibility, in recent years. For the presidency Fabio Marabini re -nourished: Muhammad Waseem Ashgar and Maria Lorena Haz Paz against him. The candidates for the Federal Council are even twenty -two. An evident split in a delicate moment with the Olympic qualifications that approach. The Federation is looking for a federal center to allow the blues, males and females, to be able to train without having to go abroad. With high costs for a small federation. President Marabini has already met Minister Abadi but now there is a risk that everything stops because of the election campaign.
