The Magic Keyboard with Touch ID is good for all M1 Macs

It’s not just the new iMacs announced recently that can be used with the Touch ID Magic Keyboard.

Not only did the new iMac debut at Apple’s April 20 event, but it also included a new Magic Keyboard with a Touch ID sensor. Few places have noticed it, but this keyboard isn’t just for new iMacs to support, but all Apple Macs with the manufacturer’s M1 processor.

Although it also uses an M1 chip, the new iPad Pro doesn’t handle the new keyboard’s sensor. In addition, for the time being, the new keyboard will only be offered alongside the M1 iMac.

Although MacBooks have long had a built-in Touch ID, the technology now appears for the first time in an add-on. Biometric ID mode can be used to sign in, authorize purchases, or sign in to third-party apps. The new keyboard is both compact and available in full size.

Unfortunately, Macs built on the Intel chip can’t use the Touch ID feature of the new keyboard (because the M1 chip is built on Secure Enclave to encrypt information) – but the keyboard itself works. It is expected that the Touch ID keyboard will be available separately over time.
