There is no more beloved Czech game. And now you Mafia will grow with another gang member. The title was just introduced to the world at the Gamescom gaming conference Mafia: The Old Countrywhich will also be released with a Czech dubbing and whose development is also taking place in the partially Czech studio Hangar 13. This is the continuation of the original creators Mafias z firmy Illusion Softworks.
Gamescom held in Cologne is one of the most important video game events today. Its festive evening opening traditionally presents the expected titles and reveals unexpected news. At the very end of this year’s opening ceremony, the organizers left quite possibly the most amazing possible announcement for Czech fans: a new Mafia.
The fourth volume of the well-known brand will bear the subtitle The Old Country. After the 1930s, 1940s and 1960s, the current trilogy will take players to the very beginning of the 20th century, to the beginnings of the Mafia in Sicily. “Do you want to dedicate your life to family?” a question will be heard in the one-minute teaser, to which probably every Czech player will answer yes.
The product page adds very interesting information Mafia 4 on Steam. It lists Czech as one of the supported languages. Including dubbing. And also the Czech name Mafia: Homeland – by the way, The Old Country, respective Country is the title of the first chapter Mafia II taking place in Sicily. The release of the game is planned for next year, the creators should publish more information this December.
“Discover the origins of organized crime in Mafia: Homeland in a gritty gangland story set in the brutal underworld of Sicily in the early 20th century. Fight for survival in this dangerous and unrelenting time and jump into the action through authentically crafted reality and a rich story.” adds a rather vague description of the game annotation on Steam.
That for a new one Mafia they work in Brno, the representatives of the Hangar 13 studio revealed already last year. “I’m happy to confirm that we’ve started work on a brand new Mafia project,” said Roman Hladík, the head of the studio, which belongs to the video game publishers 2K and Take-Two Interactive. That is, the company under which the developers from Rockstar Games with the brand also belong Grand Theft Auto.
First Mafia by Illusion Softworks was released in 2002 and has earned cult status in the hearts of home gamers. The authors, led by Daniel Vávra, were inspired by the most famous gangster films from Godmother until after The mobsters they weren’t Goodfellas and created a thrilling story complete with fun gameplay. In addition, Czech players still write poems about the dubbing of Marek Vašut or Petr Rychlé.
Fans of organized crime had to wait eight years for the second part, but the wait was worth it – it received a similarly positive reception. But the third Mafia from 2016 did not arouse such enthusiasm. Combined, however, it has sold over 34 million copies across the series.
The popularity of the first two volumes Mafias led to the release of improved subtitled versions Definitive Editionwhich were worked on by the developers from Hangar 13. Even the modern remake is one of the proofs of that Mafia remains perhaps the brightest jewel in the treasure trove of homegrown game development.
And in addition to the remastered versions, the previous year’s edition of the book also testifies to this The Art of Mafia Trilogy for the twentieth anniversary of the first volume. Much like writer Mario Puzo revealed in his To the godfather practices of the real mafia, so the publication published thanks to the game store Xzone revealed the history of development Mafias gaming. The one whose fourth chapter is currently being written.
