The Madrid taxi requires Almeida aid for the sector after the pandemic

Madrid taxi drivers have demanded the mayor of the capital, José Luis Martínez Almeida, to launch a package of aid to revive a sector “key in the economy, development and enhancement of the image of the city”, which currently passes through the worst moments after the pandemic.

With these words, the president of the FPTM, Julio Sanz, referred to the mayor of the capital in a letter in which, echoing the aid approved to support the commercial sector and the associations of merchants and dealers of municipal markets for the implementation of digital transformation processes; request similar aid for the taxi sector.

In the letter, Sanz refers to Royal Decree Law 27/2020, specifically its article five, which approves an extraordinary support credit for public transport services owned by local entities, “among which is public transport by car-taxi and that represents a magnificent opportunity to promote the sector, with modernization projects and enhancement of the service ”.

In this line, remember that the Madrid taxi has suffered losses of 87.3% during confinement, according to a report carried out by the Department of Transport of the Community of Madrid, which has been ratified in losses of 60% on average during the de-escalation period.

Therefore, Sanz stresses that “the City Council cannot miss the opportunity offered by Royal Decree Law 27/2020 to support and promote a sector as important as auto-taxi transport” and suggests that they approve two basic lines of aid.
