The madman who had taken refuge in his home in Ensival, Verviers, was calmly arrested on Saturday around 8:15 p.m., said the prosecutor.
The man, born in 1964, threatened to blow up his home, located on Entre Bridges Street. The police tried to negotiate for more than five hours with the local resident, who was alone in the building. Given the risk of explosion, residents of the neighborhoods had however been evacuated.
The firefighters and the bourgmestre of Verviers came down on the spot.
“The man was finally intercepted around 8:15 p.m. while leaving the house. Things happened calmly. The madman did not oppose resistance“said the division prosecutor, who clarified that the individual was deprived of liberty and will be heard.”The hearings will help to understand the reasons for this gesture. The offenses which will be retained will make it possible to determine the qualification and to envisage training“, concluded the prosecutor of division.
