The Madeleine theater was created in 1924 and in 1925 Marcel Pagnol’s first play “Les Marchands de Gloire” was a success. The theater was then distinguished by an avant-garde and contemporary creation, and from 1930 La Madeleine will become the theater of Sacha Guitry with significant plays such as “The New Testament” or “N’ listenez pas, Mesdames”. In the 1950s and 1960s, the public acclaimed plays by Mauriac, Montherlant, Roussin, Marcel Aimé and Colette.
