The M5S evolves – The Post

Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio, former political leader of the 5 Star Movement, wrote a post on Facebook to justify his decision to vote Yes to both questions posed to members of the Movement in one vote online in progress on the Rousseau platform. The questions concern two significant changes to the Movement’s rules, the modification of the so-called “zero mandate” and the alliances with the “traditional parties” in the administrative elections: the vote began at 12 noon on 13 August and will end at 12 noon on 14 August.

Among the two questions, the one that caused the most discussion is the first, which in essence will allow the members of the Movement to consider nothing an experience as a municipal councilor, and therefore be able to overcome the constraint of the two mandates: one of the rules on which the M5S was was founded and on which he had insisted a lot to show his difference from other parties. According to many, this change will serve to allow the mayor of Rome Virginia Raggi to run for a second term at the helm of the city, despite having already had experience as a city councilor and has therefore already completed two terms.

Di Maio explained his decision to vote Yes to the two questions, and replying to those who had criticized the 5 Star Movement’s decision to further weaken the mandate limit rule for the elected, wrote that “the Movement is evolving”.
