The Luxury Cabin Market in Norway Faces Challenges and Slowdown

That’s what E24 writes on Tuesday.

– The market is a bit wait-and-see. Customers are unsure how the prices will turn out, says broker Petter Birkrem in Privatmeglerne, who is responsible for sales, to the newspaper.

Bjørn Dæhlie investigates Norway from Switzerland: Earned 170 million

Difficult luxury market

According to E24, Bjørn Dæhlie and his business partner Rolf Mobæk bought the cabin on Trysil for NOK 21 million in 2016.

The duo put the cabin up for sale last autumn, but no one has been willing to match the asking price of NOK 29 million.

– They possibly try with low bids, but are afraid to approach the asking price. After electricity prices rose a lot, the luxury market stopped completely, says Birkrem to E24.

The property is 3,547 square meters and consists of the main cabin with six bedrooms, a guest cabin with four bedrooms, a storeroom and a garage.

“A magnificent and majestic property few can compare with in Norway”, it says in the ad.

Moved to Switzerland

Ski king and businessman Bjørn Dæhlie moved in October 2020 from Eidsvoll to Bø in Vesterålen.

The following year he moved back to the constitutional village, but only two months later he and his wife announced their move to Zug in Switzerland.

– We have thought about this for many years, but it has not been suitable with regard to family and work. We are in our mid-50s and have found that if we were to realize our plan to live abroad, it must be now, he wrote in an email to The online newspaper.

– I have come to love Switzerland and know the country well after many visits with the national cross-country team, he said.
