The town hall center in Ludwigshafen will be completely leveled. City politics has now decided that. Where the administration should be located in the future is still the subject of debate.

The city council of Ludwigshafen unanimously decided to demolish the town hall center. The ensemble of buildings is expected to fall from 2022 onwards. At the beginning of 2019, the city acquired the property from DWS for EUR 43 million. At that time only a partial outline was under discussion. It was supposed to be part of the removal of the north elevated road above the center, which in turn is part of a large-scale urban redevelopment.
With the decision that has now been taken, it is clear that the building complex, which opened in 1979, consisting of a shopping center with 28,000 square meters of retail space and the 72 m high office tower, should completely disappear. How it will go on is still open. A study from last year assumes total costs of 300 million euros for the demolition and the new construction of a town hall at the same location. In the political debate, however, are also a conversion of the largely vacant Walzmühle shopping center and an administrative headquarters in the Metropol project of the Timon Group on Berliner Platz instead of the hotel planned there.
