the Lucia show will light up this end of the year

Canceled last year due to a pandemic, the Lucia show is back on the facades of the cathedrals of Nantes and Angers, also on the building of the natural history museum in Nantes. A good dose of magic in perspective.

The third and latest edition of the biennial Lucia show was given in December 2018. The next one was logically scheduled for 2020 but, in the midst of the pandemic, it had been canceled.

Nantes and Angevins will rediscover the world of the painter this winter 2021 Alain thomas, an international reference for primitive naive painting, projected onto the cathedrals of the two cities and the Nantes natural history museum on the occasion of the holidays.

We will find the colorful flora and fauna that characterize the universe of Alain Thomas in this show brought to light by Rennes society. Spectacular Image Igniters and offered by the company Lucia.

On the facade of the Saint-Pierre et Saint-Paul cathedral in Nantes, the show imagined for the 2018 edition has been redesigned to incorporate the episode of the fire that ravaged the monument in July 2020.

“The cathedral will come back to life for the first time since the fire” rejoices Wilhem Thomas, co-founder with François-Xavier Vandanjon de Lucia.

The projection will avoid the capital necessary for the restoration work of the cathedral, on the square, but will revive the large stained-glass window destroyed by the fire. Which one will be mentioned in the show. “It would be a mistake not to integrate the fire” says Wilhem Thomas, who points out that the Amazon rainforest is also burning. But we will not know more except that the hummingbird which in Native American legend helps to save the forest from fire will be present in this new allegory. “full of hope, color and happiness” we are told.

“It will be moving” promises Wilhem Thomas who also called on a Choletais carillonneur to broadcast the sound of bells, those of the cathedral having been silent since the disaster.

We also have an appointment again behind the natural history museum of Nantes. But for a different atmosphere. Rather, it will be a projection “playful, humorous, vegetal, animal on pre-Columbian civilizations. There will be a side of cities of gold” announces Wilhem Thomas who enjoys reviving the stuffed animals of the museum.

The Saint-Maurice d’Angers cathedral will also be illuminated with the rich colors of Alain Thomas’ bestiary in an adapted version of Lucia, less wide to stick to the more slender facade of the monument.

Note that the Lucia company is also present in Laval as part of the Lumières de Laval this end of the year for illuminations on the new castle.
