The Skirt Swing Golf Foundation stated today that due to the limited number of certified courses in Taiwan and the unusual funding requirements of the courses, after discussing with the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Tour of America) headquarters, it has decided to terminate the LPGA Skirt Swing in October Taiwan game contract. The LPGA official website also announced the cancellation of the LPGA Taiwan Tournament at the same time, and another event will be arranged in the future.
The 2020-2022 Skirt Swing LPGA Taiwan Tournament has been canceled for three consecutive years due to the impact of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease 2019) epidemic. This year’s event was originally scheduled to be held from October 26 to 29.
A press release issued by the foundation pointed out that the foundation has continued to actively contact and analyze with major domestic sponsors in the past period of time, how to break through the limit of the scale of the event and make it more exciting. However, there are currently very limited LPGA-certified venues in Taiwan that are suitable for hosting tournaments, and these certified tournament venues offer unusually high fees. The high fees also surprised the LPGA headquarters. Coupled with some regulatory issues, there are many variables in the event planning.
The foundation stated that after full communication between the LPGA headquarters and the foundation, focusing on the stability and continuity of LPGA competitions in Asia, and considering the current difficult environment for Taiwan competitions, they decided to terminate the Taiwan LPGA competition contract.
As for the amount of fees charged by the stadium, Liu Chongwei, director of the foundation office, said that the contract has a confidentiality agreement and cannot be disclosed. However, compared with past games, stadium support, and total budget, it feels like a heavy burden.
In addition, Liu Chongwei also mentioned that whether the event can be held is not a single issue, there may be other factors. As for whether the investment promotion is not as good as expected? Liu Chongwei said that it is only March, and the investment promotion has not yet entered the stage of intensive negotiation, and the main sponsors still express their willingness to continue sponsoring.
