The competition authority in Hungary fined the low-cost airline Wizz Air with 770,000 euros for false communication, the institution announced on Saturday on its website, reports Reuters, cited by News.ro.
The institution said that Wizz Air breached its professional duty and was deceived by the way it described its automatic booking service and pushed users to more expensive packages.
Wizz Air was not immediately available for comment.
The fine comes after Wizz Air cut its full-year profit forecast earlier this week following a 44% drop in operating profit in the first quarter, partly due to costs related to Pratt & Whitney engine problems and termination of unique leases to increase capacity.
The low-cost airline, which flies a fleet of Airbus jets, has faced challenges with Pratt and Whitney RTX engines, with 46 of its planes due to be grounded for inspections this summer , inhibiting ability.
European airlines had a difficult first half of the year due to skyrocketing costs and normalizing customer demand after an initial post-pandemic boom.
Air France-KLM, Lufthansa and Ryanair all reported a difficult second quarter.
UK-based Wizz Air carried 5.9 million passengers in July, with a load factor of 93.8%, as the company had to cancel 1% of scheduled flights due to global disruptions.
