The Chilean low-cost airline JetSmart It began its operations this Wednesday in Ecuador with the launch of the route between Lima y Quitoto which from April 2 the route between Lima y Guayaquil.
Both will have three weekly frequencies, since the Lima-Quito connection will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, and the Lima-Guayaquil connection will initially operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
The airline will thus compete directly with the also Chilean Latam, the only airline that currently operates between the capitals of Peru and Ecuador.
In this way, the US fund Indigo Partnersto which JetSmart belongs, adds Ecuador to its network of countries where it is already present in the air market, as is the case of Colombia, Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Chile y Peru.
At the inaugural flight ceremony, held at the international airport Marshal Sucre of Quitothe Minister of Transportation and Public Works, Roberto Luquepointed out that «Lima and Quito have many ties that today can be connected with convenient passages».
Luque stated that JetSmart will be “an alternative for Ecuadorians and Peruvians to cross their countries and take advantage of tourist destinations.”
For his part, the Minister of Tourism, Niels Olsenwelcomed the airline and hoped that it could increase frequencies in the short term.
