Raphaël Varane, one of the stars of European football, has issued an exciting statement in which he explains that “everything good comes to an end.” The French international is one of the players most admired by sports fans, and during his time at Real Madrid he won 18 titles, including four Champions Leagues and three European Super Cups. His wife, Camille Tytgat, with whom he shares a love story of more than ten years, and his three children, will accompany him on this new adventure.

After announcing that he is hanging up his boots at the age of 31, Varane announces that he will continue at Como, the Italian team he signed for this summer, “just without wearing my boots and shin guards, which I hope to share more about soon.” During this new stage, he will be accompanied by his wife, Camille, and his three children: Rubén, Anaïs, and Elena. Raphaël and Camille met at high school in Lille, their hometown, and since then their bond has been unbreakable.

Their romance began in 2010, just a year before the French international signed for the Madrid team. Camille, who wanted to be a lawyer, decided to postpone her law studies to accompany her partner in the Spanish capital. In 2015 they put the finishing touch to their story in an intimate ceremony in a coastal town in France known as “Paris, on the sea.”

Two years later, in 2017, the couple welcomed their firstborn, Rubén. In 2021, Anaïs, the couple’s first daughter, was born, and in April 2023, Elena, the youngest of the siblings, was born. The three of them, along with their mother, are the biggest admirers of the French player, and we have seen them in the vast majority of games cheering him on from the stands.
An emotional farewell
“In my career I have taken on many challenges, I have risen to the occasion, almost everything was supposed to be impossible. Incredible emotions, special moments and memories that will last a lifetime,” Varane began in his statement, admitting to feeling great pride and satisfaction when remembering everything he experienced in the sport of his life. “I have loved fighting for myself, for my clubs, my country, my teammates and the fans of each team I have played for,” recognizing that defending each shield has been an honor and that I would not change anything. The international concluded the announcement by thanking his fans, teammates and sports staff with whom he has worked “for making this trip more special than my wildest dreams could have predicted.”

Real Madrid, his team for a decade (2011-2021), wanted to say goodbye to what was one of its stars: “Raphaël Varane will remain forever in the hearts of Madrid fans as one of the great centre-backs in the history of Real Madrid and for always representing the values of our club.” The team concluded their message by wishing you the best of luck in this new and exciting adventure.
