The love of Věra Chytilová’s life. One ended up in prison, he and Miloš Kopecký threw plates at each other

Nine years have just passed since the death of the unforgettable Czech director Věra Chytilová, who died at the age of 85. In her youth, she was a charming woman whom every man turned to. She even made extra money as a model. However, she was unlucky in love all her life.

Věra Chytilová was a very honest woman. What is on the heart, is on the tongue. She did not spare her openness even to the address of men. “You don’t age. Gray hair adorns them, glasses prove them, wrinkles are sexy. No varicose veins. No cellulite. But then suddenly… They suffocate,” said the director, who first fell in love at the age of sixteen, with hockey player Zdenek Marek. But her father strongly opposed the relationship. It bothered him that Mark’s dad got divorced and married his older son’s girl. He was afraid that Zdeněk would be like his father, and he broke off the acquaintance with Věra.

Miloš Kopecký’s diary hurt her

Another love of Věra Chytilová was the emigrant Zdeněk Mlčoch, who was constantly on the heels of the State Security. In the end, he was sentenced to twenty years in prison, which the director took very hard.

She also experienced a passionate relationship with actor Miloš Kopecký. She was so in love with him that she wanted to marry him and start a family with him. They became close during the filming of the movie North Port. At the time, Kopecký was living with Milena le Breux, who knew about their romance, but it didn’t bother her at all.

The relationship between Věra and Miloš, which lasted three years, was very stormy. They often argued and even threw plates at each other. They broke up after Chytilová discovered a diary at home that Kopecký had forgotten. After one of his visits to her, he wrote the sentence in it: “Finally at home, finally at peace.” That was the last straw for the director. “She longed for a child, but she soon understood that he could not be relied upon. She concluded that he is a person for luxury, and not for comfort,” Jana Kopecká, Miloš Kopecký’s last wife, wrote in her book.

She also dated an Argentinian

Chytilová had a weakness not only for Czech men. She dated a foreigner for about a year, his name was Mario Pepe and he worked at the Argentine embassy as a secretary. His transfer to another country ended the relationship.

Věra Chytilová’s first husband was ten years older photographer Karel Ludwig. They broke up after three years and had a spectacular farewell party. The second was cameraman Jaroslav Kučera, with whom she had a daughter Tereza and a son Štěpán. Both children continue in artistic footsteps. Tereza is an artist and animator, Štěpán is a cameraman. However, even this marriage did not last. “He was an introvert, a quiet person. Life with me was a whirlwind for him, according to his own words,” the director wrote in her book. You can see how her colleagues remembered her at her funeral in the introductory video.
