The problems of Orlen’s Swiss trading company, Orlen Trading Switzerland (OTS), came to light a few months ago. All reasons incomplete order for crude oil and petroleum products, which created a loss of PLN 1.6 billion. The company paid advances that they did not get back.
Victory? The company reported that it is necessary to change the financial result of OTS for 2023.
Problems with the order and write off large
The whole affair caused a great stir.
As Orlen explained to us this spring, as of May 2023, the company has paid approximately PLN 1.6 billion in advance oil trading intermediaries. Most deliveries were to be completed by the end of 2023, and the remaining deliveries by the end of January 2024.
“These companies did not fulfill their obligations and, when they were asked to return prepayments, they failed to settle accounts with Orlen Trading Switzerland,” Orlen said.
The money was found
On Wednesday night, a Radio Zet journalist reported that the “missing” millions of dollars had been found. However, it is not yet clear whether the company will be able to bring them back. Mariusz Gierszewski thought it would be difficult.
In the spring of this year, Orlen told us “from the beginning of March 2024. the new authorities of Orlen Trading Switzerland were trying to enforce contract provisions or recover advance payments. This turned out to be impossible because of the intermediaries avoiding these duties. It should be noted that, contrary to standards, the advance payments were made without security and went to groups with which Orlen SA had never collaborated before.
