The Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games (LA28) will move from strategy to action

This week, the Organizing Committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games got a little more concrete with the visit of the coordination commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

For 3 days, LA28 and the IOC were able to take stock of the next upcoming events but also learn from the results of the Paris Games drawn up by the main leaders of Paris 2024, including Tony Estanguet. The latter also joined the LA28 coordination committee in order to “to ensure continuity between the two editions of the Games. »

“Paris 2024 has built a fabulous Olympics. Here, we can do even better, there is no reason”

Asked at a press conference about the success of the Paris Games, Casey Wasserman, president of the LA28 organizing committee, is full of praise. “Paris 2024 did an incredible job, they had a very clear plan since the bid, they delivered an authentic Olympics, with engaged fans and an electric atmosphere at unique and spectacular competition venues.”

“The Games have become sophisticated, we need the best that the United States can offer… Paris 2024 has built a fabulous Olympics. Here, we can do even better, there is no reason » added Christophe Dubi, executive director of the Olympic Games.

Nicole Hoevertsz, President of the IOC Coordination Commission

“The facilities in Los Angeles are spectacular”

“Every time we go to Los Angeles, we see how remarkable this city is and how amazing its people are. We see this in the quantity and quality of world-class sporting facilities available for the Games, including state-of-the-art stadiums and iconic venues inherited from the 1932 and 1984 Olympic Games.” added Nicole Hoevertsz, president of the IOC Coordination Commission.

In the coming months, LA28 will begin to present its site plan, the competition calendar, visual identity of the Games, ticketing and hospitality programs, mascotthe Cultural Olympiad and the volunteer recruitment program.

“LA28 has the most talented team to ensure we have what it takes to build something truly extraordinary for the athletes, fans, locals and visitors. We are focused and we are where we need to be to host an exceptional event in 2028” add Casey Wasserman.

During this visit, the members of the commission were able to visit certain sites including the Intuit Dome which will host basketball as well as the Rose Bowl and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. “The facilities in Los Angeles are spectacular, we saw others on our previous visits. They are unique in the world clarified Nicole Hoevertsz during the press briefing.

It remains to be seen whether transport and management of flows of supporters and athleteswill be there, as was ultimately the case in Paris despite the skepticism that was necessary. “Our team works closely with LA Metro teams and other suppliers, the city… we work every day on the transportation plan, for athletes, spectators, etc. it’s ongoing work” add Reynold Hoover, Managing Director of LA28.
