Irish-American dancer and choreographer Michael Flatley has undergone surgery as part of treatment for an aggressive form of cancer, the BBC reports. Flatley is world famous for his shows “Lord of the Dance”, “Feet of Flames”, “Celtic Tiger Live”.
“Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He has undergone surgery and is being cared for by an excellent team of doctors. No further comment will be made at this stage,” read a statement posted late Wednesday on Instagram. Prayers and well wishes is what you can do for him, the post added.
Flatley, 64, rose to fame as a leading member of the Riverdance troupe whose jaw-dropping performance at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest brought Irish dance to global attention. Later he created his own show – “Lord of the Dance”.
Chicago-born Irish-American Michael Flatley’s most recent appearance was as the writer, director and star of Blackbird, which opened in theaters last year, four years after its completion.
Flatley, suffered from facial skin cancer, for which he was treated in 2003.
Last year, Flatley launched the “Lord Of The Dance” tour, which helped raise funds for humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
