“Last week I was here watching and I realized that all the water was gone. Then the hull appeared there. I immediately texted my friends and said, ‘Good heavens, I think I have found a ship. , a sinking ship! ‘”he said. .
Ford then contacted experts and news of his discovery reached Mississippi state archaeologist Chip McGimsey. He said the ship’s remains were known in advance.

The wreck is believed to belong to Brookhill, a merchant ship built in 1886 in Indiana. Brookhill has a twin, the Istrouma, a ferry that operates during the day while Brookhill travels at night.
“On September 29, 1915 there was a big storm, both ships sank because a log hit Brookhill,” McGimsey said. The shipwreck was 30 meters from the mooring.
McGimsey said an archaeological firm had done some research on the wreck when it came to light 30 years ago.
“In 1992, they conducted some limited investigations and were able to see very small pieces. Researchers are trying to get information on how it was built and how old it is,” he said.
“It wasn’t as exposed then as it is now. Most of it is still buried in mud and they had to dig a lot to see the small pieces too,” he added.
Archaeologists say 90% of the ship’s remaining hull is now open. The ship will be studied for rendering and studying how it was built.
“There are no clear records on shipbuilding, especially wooden ships. There are very few left and this is a rare example from around 1900,” he said.
More than 55% of the contiguous area is in drought, the highest since April. There are more than 133 million people living in the drought-affected area, the largest affected population since 2016.
Severe droughts covered more than 70 percent of Arkansas and nearly 40 percent of Missouri, up from just 5 percent a month ago. Rainfall in several locations has hit record lows in recent weeks, including Memphis, Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Springfield, Missouri.
