The newly opened “Tunel de la Linea” between the cities of Cahamark and Calark allows drivers to save 20 kilometers of winding road at 3,600 meters above sea level.
When driving from the central part of the country to the south-west, crossing this tunnel reduces the journey time by one and a half hours.
The construction of the tunnel took more than 10 years and cost about $ 270 million. It is considered to be the most important achievement in Colombian engineering.
Duke called it the “dream of the whole country.”
This tunnel will be part of a transport structure with more than 20 other tunnels and about 30 viaducts. It is expected to be used by thousands of trucks every day, transporting 40% of the country’s exports.
